I exchanged some emails with my transplant coordinator Stephanie, and have a little better idea of where that all stands. The timing and feasibility of unrelated donor SCTs can be a bit unpredictable, as there's more info given to them about what will happen, they have a chance to back out, they need to pass a physical, and the timing of the donation needs to work around their schedule. This is complicated further by my situation, as we don't even know if achieving a remission (as measured by PET/CT, Bone Marrow Biopsy, etc.) is possible - muchless the timing of such a remission should we achieve it to tie into the transplant schedule. Very complicated, and will involve a lot of last-minute footwork if/when it happens.
Stephanie also said they were currently working with two potential donors - apparently there are 10 things they try to match (sounds like an internet dating site ;^). One of the potential donors is a perfect match (10/10), while the other (backup) is 9/10 (apparently at which level they still go ahead). So they're working with the perfect match person first of course, but I guess anything can happen.
Back to the present, I was called into the hospital at 4 PM, and am now getting Rituxan, as well as bicarb in preparation for the Methotrexate I'll be getting at some point later tonight. Sounds like they also want to give me blood tonight. So far, so good.
Cathy and Laurel just left from their visit; they brought me the "fabric Menorah" we hang on the wall at home, and we did the second night of Hanukah in my room. Laurel inserted the fabric candles while we all said the prayer, and then Laurel opened her present. The "Menorah" is now hanging on a hook on my wall.
